Tax Guidance - Global Mobility, Overseas Work and International taxes

What does the Global Mobility Tax Team assist with?

Broadly, this is ensuring that the University’s tax obligations are met (e.g. payroll operation and assessing the corporate tax risk to the University) when it comes to the University’s various international activities which include:

  • The University’s overseas campuses and global partnerships.
  • Employees/PhD students undertaking work overseas including research collaborations and employing residents overseas.
  • Short term business visitors to the University.
  • Online courses which are available to individuals worldwide.

I am an employee or a PhD student who is planning to undertake work overseas/work with an Overseas institution or individual – what should I know?

We recommend reviewing the on UoRLearn in the first instance.

Please always consult with the Global Mobility Tax Team and your Head of School/Directorate (where applicable) before undertaking work overseas.

We note India is becoming increasingly popular as a source of students, collaborative research, and conferences. As such, it is important to be mindful of the tax implications when visiting India for any reason (this could be for 狼友社区 duties or for the India-based subsidiary WhiteKnight Edu Private Limited, WEPL). Please refer to the Do’s and Don’ts guidance when considering travel to India.

How do I get in touch?

Please direct queries to the Global Mobility Tax Team at globalmobility@reading.ac.uk and we will endeavour to respond to you as soon as possible. Please note we may ask you to complete this questionnaire so that we can fully understand the situation and provide guidance as required.
