Overview
This course introduces Copperplate Calligraphy, a traditional Western script known for its elegance, rhythm, and precision. Students will learn fundamental techniques including posture, pen angle, basic strokes, letterforms (miniscule and majuscule), numerals, and composition.
The course fosters creativity, discipline, and craftsmanship while developing fine motor skills, artistic sensitivity, and attention to detail鈥攕kills that are transferable across disciplines. It also highlights practical applications in areas such as branding, graphic design, and heritage arts.
No prior experience is required. By the end of the course, students will be able to produce their own calligraphy work for personal, academic, or creative purposes.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Produce consistent lowercase and uppercase letterforms based on Copperplate principles
- Create an original Copperplate composition in response to a design brief
- Reflect on the learning process, identifying areas for improvement and personal artistic growth
